Honorary Doctorate

Celebrating Excellence and Inspiring Change

Overview
LeadImpact University takes immense pride in recognizing exceptional individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their fields and society at large. We are thrilled to present our prestigious Honorary Doctorate Program, an opportunity to honor and celebrate distinguished leaders and visionaries. Our Honorary Doctorate Program embodies our commitment to excellence, innovation, and the pursuit of positive change. We believe in acknowledging those who have demonstrated exceptional achievements, visionary leadership, and a profound impact on their respective domains.

An honorary doctorate represents the pinnacle of recognition bestowed by the LeadImpact University. At LIU, individuals seeking consideration for an honorary doctoral degree must fulfill specific criteria tailored to each award. Additionally, the university offers various non-honorary doctorate options that require advanced education, catering to individuals seeking specialized academic pursuits.

The conferment of Honorary Doctoral Degrees is not contingent upon academic achievements. Instead, individuals are granted these prestigious awards in recognition of their generous and altruistic actions or remarkable lifetime accomplishments that have positively impacted a community, nation, or humanity as a whole.

Eligibility
The Honorary Doctorate Program at LeadImpact University is open to individuals who have achieved remarkable eminence in cultural affairs, public service, or a specific field of knowledge and scholarship. The selection criteria align with the ideals and purposes of the university, recognizing individuals of extraordinary and enduring distinction. It is not a requirement for nominees to have any prior educational or association with LeadImpact University.

The conferral of honorary degrees is not based on financial contributions to the university. Instead, it serves as a means of acknowledging and honoring individuals who have made significant contributions and accomplishments in their respective fields. While there may be an administrative fee associated with exempt nominees, the awarding of honorary degrees is not contingent upon financial considerations.

Degree Criteria
At LeadImpact University, the conferral of an honorary doctoral degree is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated sustained lifetime achievement. LIU places emphasis on the enduring impact of an individual's accomplishments, rather than simply representing a prominent vocation or pursuit.

It is a requirement at the university for the honoree to be present during the conferral of the degree. LeadImpact University also allows for the granting of honorary doctoral degrees posthumously, with the option for the degree to be accepted by the honoree's family or colleagues.

Limitations
The nomination and evaluation process maintain strict confidentiality, and no information is to be disclosed until after the Board of Regents' review and the subsequent invitation extended to the nominee by the institution. As a policy, the Board typically restricts individuals to receiving only one honorary degree from the LeadImpact University.

Honorary degrees are generally conferred in person, and in exceptional circumstances, may be awarded in absentia. In the event of the nominee's passing after accepting the chancellor's invitation but before the scheduled conferral, a degree may be granted posthumously.

The LIU does not assume any legal obligations by awarding honorary degrees. Recipients of honorary degrees do not receive any honorarium or financial compensation.

Upon being conferred an honorary doctoral degree of LIU "honoris causa," the honoree possesses the right to refer to themselves as "doctor" and may grant permission for others to do so as well. This recognition is evidenced by a Testamur issued under the university seal.
